Old Ale (xxxx) Alcohol.4.3% vol. (October To May)
A Victorian style, dark seasonal drink brew, the advent of 'Old' is eagerly awaited by its devotees and the brewery holds a special church service (on 1st October this year) followed by the 'Dancing in of the Old' at the brewery when all and sundry are invited for a free sample taste of the new season's brew.
Similar to the mild ales produced during the early part of the 20th century, it is brewed to an original gravity of 1040°-1044° using a high percentage of crystal malt and black sugars. The result is a soft, full beer with a nutty palate. It was Harvey's first beer to win a National Award in 1952 and has won many other accolades since.
Show yourself to be a Harvey's regular by asking for a 'mother-in-law' - Old and Bitter! Whatever the name, the combination is quite popular!
